Barriers to Effective Communication
When two people are having a conversation and to be able to communicate effectively. There are several things that need to be reduced in order to be able to communicate properly.
There are several things that can affect communication and these are the following barriers.
The background noise can distract someone while they are trying to have a conversation. The slightest things can distract and this can be someone talking behind someone or a car that is driving past while two people are trying to have a conversation.
Both people need to maintain a good concentration levels from distractions. Everyone can only take in so much information at once and it is important that the length of the conversation is short and straight to the point. This is the same for the written communications as people can only take in so much that is written on a page.
E.g. someone could read the information on one page of A4 than a 2 page letter which they will lose concentration easier.
Distractions can also interrupt how a person can communicate. Easy things such as a phone going off can cause someone to lose concentration and the conversation to stop. As part of this the person who is trying to convey the message across to the person who is distracted by the mobile phone may have to repeat what they said as the person is distracted and may stop listening to what you were saying at that time.
Body language can be barrier to effective communication can this can indicate a negative attitude to the person that is trying to speak to you. Someone who has a negative attitude will have there arms folded and not talking much means that the person who is trying to speak to you may not want to talk to you as they get a negative vibe off you.
